Child Responsibility
Child Responsibility
Responsibility in children is not an innate concept, it is learned later. One of the most important goals in child development in the social-emotional field is to acquire behaviors that will support the personality development of the child, who can stand on his own feet and become a self-confident individual. Among these behaviors, the child's awareness of responsibility is at the forefront of importance. The concept of responsibility can be considered as the basic step for perceiving, analyzing and realizing the concept of right. A sense of responsibility in children should be gained from infancy and childhood. Communication within the family, the attitude towards the child in the family, and the discipline approach applied (determination and consistency) have a great role in gaining this feeling. A sense of responsibility is first learned and developed from the family and then from the social environment.
Although the sense of responsibility is thought of as the ability to fulfill certain tasks, it is actually related to the individual's developing his/her own skills and being aware of the consequences of his/her behaviors. As they experience the consequences of their behavior and use their developing skills, the child's self-confidence increases. The sense of competence and self-confidence development of children who are not given the opportunity to use and develop their skills is also limited. Children who do not have the opportunity to develop their responsibility-taking skills at home may become individuals who cannot do their homework at school on time, often forget their belongings, have difficulty in organizing their bags and desks, and more importantly, always need help from others in the face of events they encounter, and therefore their self-confidence is not fully developed. .
- Children should be given responsibilities.
- The child should be trusted and allowed to make choices.
- The child's efforts should be respected.
- Instead of making decisions, he should be allowed to think for himself and solve the problem.
- While sharing responsibilities and duties related to the house, care should be taken to behave fairly among siblings.
- Responsibility is gained not by coercion, but by being liked.
