What is Coding?
What is Coding and Why Is It Important?
Coding is a language with its own logic and flow structure through which we communicate with robots and machines. It requires problem solving skills at its foundation. For this reason, the earlier children are introduced to the logic and culture of coding, the more their analytical thinking and problem-solving skills develop. They grow up as individuals who have different perspectives, think, and produce both in their academic and social lives. Through coding, children learn to think in flow, to solve big problems by dividing them into parts. Moreover, children gain a culture of group work, creativity, planning skills and learn to code the language of the future.
4 IMPORTANT REASONS WHY CODING IN PRESCHOOL;
- IT INCREASES DOMAIN AWARENESS AND LOGICAL THINKING SKILLS
Children begin coding by counting the spaces they must move, identifying objects and locations, and indicating their direction of movement. In this way, coding activities help children think about directioCodn, space, and movement and strengthen their math skills.
- IT IMPROVES PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
ing activities involve many challenges for children. Therefore, planning correctly is important for success. When there are several ways to solve a problem, children can think of more than one way to find a solution and choose the most effective strategy. This contributes to the development of children's problem-solving skills.
- IT IMPROVES COMMUNICATION SKILLS
When two children are coding together, they need to share their ideas with each other to find the most efficient way. In this way, they also develop listening skills and the ability to express their own thoughts to others.
- IT CONTRIBUTES TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF LANGUAGE SKILLS
Coding games usually have a story within them. Through these stories, children develop their vocabulary and better understand the texts. Furthermore, realizing that each symbol in the code has a different meaning helps them develop print awareness.
CODING WITH CUBETTO:
Using our robot cubbeto, we are doing cubbeto-centered studies, which provide the basics of algorithmic logic, are screen independent, and are inspired by Montessori education. Thanks to our original storytelling content, children have fun, generate solutions with excitement, create algorithms, and code. Throughout the program, children solve larger problems, debug the system and reinforce basic coding skills. Towards the end of the semester, we continue to practice more advanced concepts such as loops and functions with cubetto. With our cubetto robot, which we combine with different materials, children gain group work culture, creativity, problem solving skills, planning skills, and analytical thinking skills.
CODING WITH MTINY:
In the second semester with our children who have laid a great foundation with Cubetto studies, we continue our work with interactive games accompanied by Mtiny. Thanks to Mtiny, our work also includes original content to develop language, expression, math and music skills. New blocks are added to the code blocks they have already met. With the help of our Mtiny robot, our children who are introduced to block coding physically use code blocks prepared in the same theme as international coding platforms without a screen, work with more complex problems, and combine coding with different disciplines. In our coding work with Mtiny, children create their own stories and start creating and solving problems themselves. They are working on more complex fiction with our wide range of code blocks. Thus, it contributes to the development of children's discovery, intuition, fiction and creativity.
